Fresh Content is King

by Ron Blaise on November 7, 2011

You know the old saying “Content is King”, well actually it’s “Fresh & Unique Content is King”; we’ve been telling this to our clients and students for months and a few days ago Google announced that they do consider freshness when ranking pages for search results.

Google says that the ‘freshness’ factor is an upgrade to their ‘caffeine’ algorithm change last year; but our tests show that Googlebot has been crawling “stale” pages less frequently for several months and has downgraded SERPs for the stale pages.

Here’s the official notification from Google – and while you might interpret that the freshness algorithm shouldn’t affect your site; our tests show that clients who have consistently updated key pages within their sites have faired better with their page ranks than clients who have not.

Ninjas have been busy working on client projects and developing Facebook, LinkedIn and web apps for both client and internal projects; but now that we have a short breather …we’re finally relaunching the Ninja Social Labs site.

At Ninja Social Labs, we’ll primarily discuss tools and strategies for our small business clients; but we’ll occasionally share case studies from client projects.
